Fuller Center Fuels Health While Fighting Hunger

September is Hunger Action Month

Nearly one out of five families in our area may not know where their next meal is coming from or cannot provide a consistent diet due to the high cost of nutritious foods, according to a study by Feeding America. September is Hunger Action Month, which highlights the need in our community and the support provided by Fuller Center to local families to keep children healthy.

Fuller Center now serves more than 433,740 meals and snacks a year, providing two-thirds of a child’s daily nutritional needs. However, with food prices skyrocketing, serving 2,314 meals daily has become an increasingly difficult challenge.

“Proper nutrition is essential for children’s physical and cognitive development. Malnutrition can make children more susceptible to disease, stunting their cognitive abilities, reducing educational outcomes, and possibly perpetuating the cycle of poverty,” said Fuller Center CEO Eric Roby. “Healthy children and families are the foundation of a thriving community. By addressing nutritional needs, Fuller Center empowers children and families to learn, work, and contribute more effectively helping to lift our entire community out of poverty and hunger.”

Due to the dramatic increase in the Fuller Center’s Health and Hunger Programs, additional funds are needed to sustain this crucial program. While Hunger Action Month highlights the need in our community, hunger is a year-round problem for many local families.

“Join us in the fight against hunger! Your support will help us provide healthy meals and vital nutrition education so that all families can eat healthy. Together, we can build a community of stronger, healthier families,” said Roby.
